Restorative Rest – ElPropósito2 min de lectura

Restorative time and its link to our priorities

After two intense weeks of work, I’m finally home. Resting means switching activities, and rest, too, is in harmony with our life purpose. How do we take something so important for granted, without considering how vital rest is to reaching our goals?

Our scarcest resource as human beings is time. We spend our lives searching for happiness and for harmony in everything we do. Exercise and eating well, for example, matter just as much as sleeping well and being able to clear our minds.

Physical and emotional health are two of the biggest enablers of whatever we set out to do in life. The very essence of rest lies in giving our time and full attention to what we want to do with our downtime. That’s why it matters so much, and why it deserves our focus too.

A tired, worn-out body shows the same signs as a tired, worn-out company, and the same goes for a work team. Without a clear purpose, tasks become endless, and over time they pile up stress and fatigue that are hard to repair.

Restorative rest, on the other hand, brings a unique sense of wellbeing, along with the hope that whatever comes next will be tackled from start to finish with a rewarding, deeply fulfilling result.

It’s up to us to stay aware of every activity we devote resources to. To get restorative rest, it’s important to be clear on our priorities and, above all, to plan our rest as well.

Warm regards,

P.S. I can sum up this week’s VELA with the video I watched today, Sunday, of Sir Richard Branson on his trip to space: "To all you kids down there, I was once a child with a dream looking up to the stars, now I’m an adult in a spaceship with lots of other wonderful adults looking down to our beautiful, beautiful earth. To the next generation of dreamers, if we can do this, just imagine what you can do"
