Valuable People – ElPropósito2 min de lectura

What does a person guided by purpose look like?

One trait sets the most valuable people apart: a spirit of service. It’s an important leadership quality, perhaps the one that shines through most, at all times and in every circumstance. I’m writing about valuable people because of something I realized this week, after feeling deeply grateful for all the chances I’ve had to spend time with wonderful people. I believe the world gets better as more of us recognize the importance of values and of respecting other people’s life projects. A valuable person always fights for their goals while serving others along the way, and above all goes through life with a very clear purpose.

Respect for other people’s life projects is a definition of freedom I’m passionate about, share and try to live by. In coaching, by its very origin and nature, freedom and respect for others may be what we value most. Responsibility for success or failure belongs to no one but ourselves. Valuable people own their actions. They’re always fully aware of how they act in life and, above all, of their ability to serve.

No two people share the same life purpose, and they never will. Yet when a team comes together, it shares a single purpose. Great teams are made up of valuable people who constantly lead and manage themselves. These teams take on challenges because they enjoy their work and have a huge passion for what they do. A team’s greatest value is its ability to work in synergy and deliver exceptional results, and that synergy and those results tie directly to its purpose.

Purpose, values, habits, goals, empathy, justice, courage, wisdom and temperance, among many others, all matter equally, and we need to develop them to move toward a life guided by purpose. Likewise, organizations care more and more about ethics and values, about promoting their purpose and about having all their people share it and live it in some way. We need to learn to value people, to support others in becoming valuable people and to keep refining our own way of life, built on a spirit of service.
