The Search – ElPropósito3 min de lectura
What are we looking for, and why?
Photo by Markus Winkler on UnsplashOur days are usually shaped by what we give our time and dedication to, and from that pairing we hope for a result that leans positive, or at least doesn’t set us back. Along the road, we’re constantly chasing what we long for. Hits and misses included, it becomes a constant search for something and for a reason why. Here’s what that something is, and how to give it a why.
We’re all born with a purpose, and living it is what we came into this world to do. Like it or not, organizations are born with a purpose too, and so are work teams, projects, congregations and more. The challenge is finding it and staying true to it in every circumstance. That’s one of the (ethical) reasons good success stories exist, personal and organizational alike.
Purpose and happiness are different things. Happiness is a constant search that arrives in doses, as far as we live true to what we came here to do. Over time, challenges change a great deal, structures shift, visions evolve and talent and imagination produce new ways of working. What stays intact and pointed the same way is the north of our purpose.
By nature we’re always looking for challenges of every kind. The next key to staying true to our north is to keep asking why we take those challenges on. With that answer, we make choices that usually leave us with a satisfying result, a lesson or a unique experience. Our wellbeing grows to the extent that our results are born with meaning.
The greatest victories come from the deepest part of who we are. Whatever the moment, there’s a unique connection, or state, we can discover as we move through each day fully aware of our visions, the road, what surrounds us and where we’re headed. To be in the world, it matters a great deal to know where we’re putting our effort and, above all, why.
Warm regards and all the best,

P.S. This week’s VELA:
- What I’ve been Viewing: 100 Meters. A great film. Having done an Ironman, I related to it a lot, and I think it’s already inspiring me to do another (once it’s possible). I recommend it, especially for the main character and the immense effort he made to take on such a challenge. Anyone who thinks it can’t be done will see from this film that it can.
- What I’ve been Listening to: Essential ideas of liberalism. I’ve always admired Manuel Ayau’s work. I never had the good fortune to attend his classes or lectures, so I’m deeply grateful to whoever put these videos on YouTube. They keep helping me sharpen my ideas and concepts about freedom.
- What I’ve been Reading: Estados Unidos: La historia. Still on the book. I’m at slavery and haven’t reached Lincoln yet. It will be interesting to compare the Lincoln biographies I’ve read with this author’s account. It’s already a great work in my hands and one of my best finds.
- What I’ve been Learning: Miro. A powerful tool I discovered in a course I’m taking. It’s one of the best things I’m learning, and well worth using: a collaborative platform for all kinds of work, designs, projects and more.
