How to unlock our potential and become everything we can be
Photo by Markus Spiske temporausch.com from PexelsThere have been times when I seriously doubted I could reach a goal or that I was the right person for a project. Those doubts brought anxiety, fear, self-criticism and complete paralysis, with time passing and nothing moving. Working through those fears until I felt I was moving forward again took effort and time. One big conclusion came out of it: unlocking a person’s full potential comes down to being who we really want to be.
In physics, potential means stored energy. Once released, that energy takes many forms: a dream fulfilled, a goal reached, the future we want taking shape. What those results share is the fullest expression of someone’s abilities, and what we achieve often ends up feeling like a work of art to us. So how do we release that energy?
A big first step is giving ourselves permission to be the person we want to be. Whatever our circumstances, we’re always free to decide how we face them, whatever model has been set, suggested or imposed on us. That frees us to wear the clothes we’ve always wanted to wear, and it’s the greatest source of confidence for stepping out into the world and making the most of it as we chase our dreams.
The next step is daring to try and to fail. Even outside our comfort zone, in our best armor and sure of our potential, there will always be something to learn after a fall or a stumble. That’s our chance to sharpen our own strategies for moving forward on a path whose result will be our deepest satisfaction.
Rehearsal tunes the voice, so next comes singing, and singing out loud. Once we’re aware of our talent and see that putting our skills into what we love pays off, the natural move is to make the most of it and shine. This is a state of flow where things seem to happen on their own: the effort is small, the result is huge, time flies and ideas keep coming.
Then the result arrives, and it’s time to enjoy the applause and give thanks. We’re both the audience and the applause. The theater is ours, and the number of shows is endless. It’s up to us to give our best performance every day and seize the chances to shine, which are unique to each of us. Like a diamond formed over time and under pressure, our job is to dig inside until we find it, then polish it every day to become who we truly want to be.
Warm regards and have a great week,
