Ideas for Action2 min de lectura
Key ingredients for carrying out any plan
Photo by Matt Hardy on UnsplashThere’s a very particular way to sense when a goal is truly going to be reached: a feeling of immense joy, passion and inspiration that turns into a steady flow of ideas for getting to the result. When a purpose is tied to a set of goals and the right action is taken at the right time, you have three of the main ingredients for a path of sharp focus and great clarity. Of those three, the one almost always left hanging is action. People are often clear on their purpose and set their goals, yet action is where the biggest gap opens up.
At the heart of action lies willpower, and action also involves responsibility and, above all, leadership. So the formula gets somewhat complex: purpose, goals, action, willpower, responsibility, leadership. Not knowing every element involved in getting from point A to point B, that is, reaching one or more goals, may be one of the most decisive factors in whether we take the first step toward anything.
Taking the first step becomes deeply meaningful and full of opportunity. Often a specific need ends up being the main motivation to act. A deep conviction, or the joy I mentioned at the start, is also a powerful source of drive, effort and willpower. In practice, when a plan isn’t carried out, it may have lacked the minimum resources to take that first step. Or there may be no clear link between the goals and the purpose, the why behind things, and so the ideas run short.
Ideas are the cherry on top of any plan. With all the ingredients I’ve mentioned (a clear purpose, goals, willpower and so on), we get a platform for building any plan. That’s where the ideas of everyone involved emerge, finding different ways to get things done. In this "initial setup," if I can call it that, we need to be very clear on every element the ship or the plane needs before setting off. In the middle of the sea, or at twenty thousand feet, turning back isn’t easy. We need every tool to reach our port of destination.
