How to Make Change Work for You This Year – ElPropósito2 min de lectura
Let change happen, adapt to it, or create it: which strategy is yours?

Going through several changes in my personal and professional life, and constantly reading about and watching the transformations in our society and the world (technological, economic and political, among others), has pushed me to define my own strategy for that reality: Do I let the world change me? Do I adapt to change? Or do I create the change myself?
My answer: create change and lead it. That takes one major shift, moving from the role of victim (someone who blames others, the environment or outside factors for their results) to the role of leader (someone who takes responsibility for and control of their choices in life, at work and in society).
Here are five elements I consider essential for creating and leading change:
- Awareness: first of all, knowing what change we’re talking about. At the doorstep of a new year, the biggest change has to be personal, along with trusting that we have the potential to move from where we are to where we want to be
- Building and aligning the change: this means projecting it and building a vision, bringing an image of the future into the present so we can see where we stand and where we want to go. We align that vision and the change through goals and the reasons behind them
- Being the change we want to see: leading by example (I once heard the phrase "walk the talk" and loved it). This is where our potential shines, because when you know where you’re going, you can direct your effort, intelligence and imagination and take the steps toward what you long for, seeing the opportunities despite whatever storms and obstacles come up
- Proactivity: the habit of always taking the initiative. I see it as a forward-looking way of moving through the world that improves the odds of success
- Leadership: the only responsibility we have in life is to take responsibility for our choices. Whether personally or in a group, leadership means inspiring others to find the path that unlocks all the latent potential available to reach places that once seemed unimaginable
How do you handle change? Do you let the world change you, adapt to change, or create it yourself?
