The Power of Reading – ElPropósito2 min de lectura

A simple habit, easy to keep, with the highest return on your life

This Sunday I’ll finish my second Joël Dicker book. It had been a long time since two novels in a row had me this hooked. In past years I planned my reading carefully. This year I decided to double the number of books and, above all, follow my instinct in choosing them.

Ideas arrive in all kinds of ways and shapes, at different moments of the day and of our lives. I also believe the world keeps pushing us to find new ways to adapt and evolve just to survive, when what we really want is a life with purpose, lived in peace, calm, harmony and happiness.

Reading is a deep well of ideas, creativity and fresh perspectives we can draw on to live in harmony. Its power lies in building habits as important as discipline, patience and creative spirit (Daniel Goleman writes about this, and I recommend him), in letting our imagination fly and, finally, in applying what we learn to daily life.

The world needs committed leaders, driven by values, purpose and goals that move us toward prosperous, free societies in harmony with nature and the universe. Another power of reading is that much of what we need to know to build the life we want has already been written. The rest is up to us: to imagine it, put it into practice, write it down and offer it to others, just as every author does.

Have a great week, all the best,

Rodrigo Baccaro

P.S. Here are a few questions to reflect on. If you’d like to send me your answers, I’d be very grateful. You can reply on this post or write to me at [email protected]:

  1. What was the last book you couldn’t put down?
  2. What does reading add to your life?
  3. What book would you recommend I read? I still have plenty to go this year 🙂
  4. What would it take for us to read more?
  5. What’s the main thing that keeps you from reading?
  6. Do you think reading is a good tool for leadership?
