The Combination That Unlocks Our Potential – ElPropósito2 min de lectura

Three ingredients that, together, deliver exceptional results

Fighting for my dreams, fully convinced they’re achievable, has shown me a combination of freedom, responsibility and effort that all of us need on the way to our fullest wellbeing.

On freedom: psychiatrist Viktor Frankl wrote in Man’s Search for Meaning: "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms, to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way." From the day we’re born, and at every moment, we’re free to change course or decide what we want from life. The wonderful part is that once we see this, we know what we want, and also what we don’t.

On responsibility: in The Call of the Tribe, Mario Vargas Llosa writes about the "unconscious panic at the responsibility that freedom imposes on the individual." That’s why we tend to outsource our destiny. Yet our innate ability to picture our dreams, take ownership of our destiny and be willing to cross the jungle trusting that we’re capable lifts us to a place where we can make the most of our full potential, personal and professional. It leads to a lasting sense of wellbeing as we move forward, whatever the circumstances.

On effort: I grew up reading a quote from Dr. Norman Borlaug (Nobel Prize winner) framed in my father’s office, and it marked my life: "To make things grow, you have to leave the office, go out into the field, get your hands dirty and sweat. It’s the only language the soil, the plants and the animals understand." The only way to reach our dreams is to pay the price: work, work and more work.

How do you connect your freedom with responsibility and effort? What would it give you?

A big hug and all the best,
