Everything arrives in its time

Everything happens once the decision is made. Some things take longer than we expect, yet sooner or later the best arrives, and it arrives to stay. Life is full of disappointments, bitterness and hardships that can make us feel, at times, that everything is falling apart. Opportunities are seized through ideas, and to paraphrase Ortega y Gasset, "we have ideas; we are in beliefs." Given how good we are at generating ideas, how do we make the most of our opportunities? Do they show up most in the hardest moments? Who deserves them?

A free human being lives in a unique cosmos of their own: their life, their values, their beliefs and their abilities. It is in relating to others that they feel the need to communicate for some particular reason. Some may assume the reason is to take advantage of someone. In freedom, though, everyone we deal with does so on their own responsibility, and they also expect something in return. It is in that exchange that we seize the opportunities it offers. Before any exchange, whether of goods, services or a conversation, we almost always stop to ask: how can I get the most out of what I am thinking of doing? This is exactly where purpose plays its essential role, keeping us from doing just to do, saying just to say or offering just to offer.

Everything happens, and everything arrives. Sometimes we feel it arrives late, yet it comes at the best possible moment. Those who fight alongside their purpose take whatever arrives as a reward for their perseverance and effort. The best opportunities show up every day, every second. The key to seizing them is noticing whether each one that lands on the table lines up with our purpose. As a rule, if something doesn’t line up with our purpose, it isn’t an opportunity worth our resources, especially our time.

I firmly believe opportunities rise with the sun, which simply means aligning the opportunities we want with our purpose. The sun rises for everyone. It lights us all and gives us all a wealth of resources at no cost, and in that same spirit, opportunities often come free too. The real question is how much we want to invest in them, and most of the time the only investment they ask for is our mind, and with it our time.

Warm regards and all the best,

P.S. I dedicate this post to my son Juan Diego, who is celebrating his fifth birthday in heaven today. In these five years you have taught me to see and seize every opportunity that comes into my life alongside a purpose.

I also dedicate it to my brother Charlie, whose birthday is today. I ask God and the Virgin Mary to give you 100 more years 🙂
