Three big words in my life

My life purpose begins like this: "To be the best father, husband and friend…". Those first words hold my essence and what I most want to do and be throughout my life. Easy? Not even close. They carry a lot of weight and a great responsibility, and over the years I have come to see more and more how much they mean to me. Today I turn 41, full of joy and, above all, deeply grateful for everything I have been given to live.

Statements of vision, mission, values and purpose carry tremendous power, especially when it comes to making things happen. In my case, starting with being the best father puts a great responsibility on me toward my children: to rise to the occasion with them and try to set an example of balance between love and firmness. I owe them everything, above all an education that makes them responsible citizens who enjoy their freedom and are deeply aware of their actions and their impact on the world. Being the best father also extends to my siblings and my parents, the greatest example of family life I have.

Next in my purpose comes being the best husband, right between the best father and the best friend. My wife is the love of my life, the link between what I think and what I achieve, the one who keeps my ideas and hopes grounded. I owe her everything, in every way, above all because of the trust that binds us. With her I share the sacrament of marriage, in which I swore before God to respect and love her until the last day of my life. Being the best husband is a great responsibility.

To be the best friend. What does friendship mean to me? Those who know me know exactly what kind of friend I am and who my friends are. I hope to stay that way, and I want my friends to always know I am there for them. I owe them as well, as a decent human being who respects their decisions and their ideas. I will always support them and never forget what it means to have such dear friends to enjoy life with.

Today, on my birthday, I thank God for life, for my family, for my friends and for how beautiful love is. Thank you from the heart for everything you let me live, day after day, in these cycles that keep growing more important, more vital and more scarce. "Memento mori"

A hug with all my appreciation,

Rodrigo Baccaro
