What happens when we align our most valuable personal treasures?

My family gave me the best education, my parents’ love and affection, and a close, warm bond with my siblings. That planted in me a deep appreciation for every moment of my life and for the way I relate to the world. Today I know how much we need to find meaning in our decisions, and that the answers live in life’s best experiences.

We have powerful tools that let us see past our limits, make us better people and give us a sense of direction, a true north, for our decisions. Today more than ever, it matters to know we’re on the right course and that we’ll reach the destination we want.

At some point in life, I believe it’s worth discovering, living and staying aware of our vision, values and purpose:

• Vision: long term, and the longer the better. Today’s world prizes and rewards the short term and quick results. Our vision should stay long term, knowing that every mountain we climb, fairly and well celebrated, will only show us another one ahead, usually bigger, and so on until our last day. A long-term vision cures short-sightedness about the immediate, heads off frustration and, among other things, secures our future.
• Values: the qualities that make us better. They’re what we care about most and treasure as our most precious asset. They connect us with the deepest part of ourselves, so they’re both unique and universal, and they should match what we do every day.
• Purpose: having a purpose means carrying a compass that points north, our own north. It guides our decisions, brings harmony to our thoughts and raises our awareness of how our choices affect the world and other people.
