Genuine Connections – ElPropósito2 min de lectura

A genuine connection is directly tied to the way people share common values. Teams, companies, organizations and any two people can build a bond of mutual understanding that shows itself in unique ways, almost like a dance. Connecting means reaching a very high degree of empathy and feeling real happiness at the other person’s presence and well-being, along with the joy of watching them grow and reach their full potential.

Connection (as I said) means sharing values, and perhaps the fundamental value that sets everything in motion is trust. Two-way trust unlocks a whole series of actions and thoughts, everything a person can give in their best version and truest essence. In teams, when we want things to flow and communication to be fuller and better, the spark may be clarity about the team’s values and whether all its members share them in one way or another.

I write about connection as a way of life that lets us understand others very deeply. Writing this post, I think about how I experience firsthand the way my personal values match, in many respects, those of the people I work with or call friends. Taking that first big step, that first check, lets me enjoy the next one: their trust. With trust come good ideas, good advice, good intentions and well-meant wake-up calls too. All of this is one of the greatest gifts human beings can build: bonds of brotherhood.

An organization’s culture, for example, rests firmly on its institutional values. Getting those values lived and modeled is essential to create the trust and communication that make things happen in a safe environment of deep respect. In a team steeped in respect, trust and communication, it’s common to see broad connection emerge, where every member feels they know the others at a special, deep and empathetic level.

Genuine connections arise as egos switch off and the most genuine essence and spirit of the human being comes through: the capacity to help others. Friendships, love for someone else, deep family ties, teams and exemplary organizations all share the level of connection they’ve built in and for others. We hold the power to know the people beside us much better, and the most beautiful part is that as we take care to cultivate those relationships, the best will always come back into our lives, multiplied. How are your genuine connections?

P.S. The VELA will have to wait this week. I’ve been immersed in Leonardo Ravier’s Teoría General del Coaching and busy living genuine connections.
