Finding Ourselves – ElPropósito2 min de lectura
Starting over, again and again

Cycles mark the start and the end of each stage of our lives, personal and professional. Every new stage should begin with a vision of the future, and I often wonder how many of the visions we hold at the start actually come true exactly as we pictured them. Very few, I suspect. It happens to me all the time, and I see it in business too. So what makes a vision powerful? Simply writing down the statement or the end result? While chasing a vision we forget that the most important part of it is us, and that pursuing something with hope and passion is what makes us unstoppable.
A very common mistake is setting objectives with no vision of the future behind them. A strategic plan is practically stillborn if all it does is string together objectives that lead nowhere in particular. In the same way, a vision falls short without a defined purpose. As we stand at the edge of a new year, it matters to close one cycle and open the next alongside a purpose that inspires us toward whatever future we envision. Our visions probably point to the end of this decade, and between now and then lie countless opportunities and paths. The question is how we know which one is right.
Is there only one path? Is there such a thing as THE path? No single route delivers 100% of our vision. Still, the best path is the one we choose to walk guided by our purpose. Walking without purpose is like walking without a compass: any decision looks good. With a clear purpose, every decision carries some confidence that it is the best one available. Picture June of this year. How will you know you are on the right path? Now picture December. How will you know you achieved what you set out to do?
The best way to find ourselves is to notice that our decisions are in tune with our purpose. How many times can we do that? As many as it takes. Let’s remember that willpower and habit produce the most important inspiration of all, the kind that moves us to act on everything we care about. Every beginning and every ending has something to give us. Today, as we start a new year eager to set countless goals, there is one question worth asking: do these objectives bring me closer to my vision and my purpose? If the answer is yes, we are on the right path.
