Feeling Fulfilled – ElPropósito3 min de lectura

I almost always write about Life Purpose, about passion and about doing the things that bring out the very best in us. Sometimes it can seem like a special state you reach, after which you never feel frustration or boredom again. The opposite is true. It’s normal and very common to drift back into tasks that add little value to our lives and sit far from our purpose, often out of routine or a lack of awareness. Then, all of a sudden, the spark shines again and the feeling of fulfillment lights up the road once more. What does it take to rekindle the spark of passion?

Routine is where habits live, and in daily life it’s also very easy to fall into endlessly repeating tasks that add nothing and actually take something away. How, in a world this beautiful and full of opportunity, can we fall into boredom, despair or dejection? I think the answer lies in loving what we do, for ourselves, for others and for the world. Still, it’s understandable that a hard, fruitless experience can leave us discouraged and even make us think there’s no other way.

Ideas are as infinite as the universe and the stars. We’re blessed that our minds hold the solutions to every problem we pose ourselves each day. We even have the means to silence the voice that says "you can’t, you won’t be able to, you’re putting us at risk, nobody has ever done it, you’re not the one who’s going to fix it." We’re also lucky that when we come together as a team, a group, an association or a society, we’re really joining universes of ideas that become unstoppable when they serve our original idea.

Even in life’s worst moments, the potential we carry stays right there inside us, ready and willing to come out. Often we don’t notice it ourselves, but the world and other people do. In moments of weakness and deepest pain, of anxiety and despair, life itself is waiting to give us its very best. The sun rises to give, expecting nothing in return. The air exists so we can breathe. The most basic things a human needs are there to keep us living. All we need is to see it and realize it.

What keeps us shining is persistence and trust. Persistence to keep walking despite the hardships, and trust that the best is always yet to come. We will always shine. Feeling full and satisfied is, and always will be, the reward for effort, for trusting our potential, for the determination that living our values gives us, for respecting life and others, for giving until it hurts and for serving without expecting anything in return.

  • P.S. This week’s VELA (what I was Watching, Listening to, Reading and Learning):
  • What I was Watching: Paul Villafuerte. The man behind the famous popular phrase "sin miedo al éxito" (no fear of success). An interesting story about a remarkable person and his impact on people through sport. The report is worth watching
    – What I was Listening to: El sueño mexicano: empezar de cero, Jorge Vergara. I found this video after hearing Mr. Vergara give feedback to his soccer team. I didn’t know who he was until I looked him up and realized what a business shark he was. An incredible story, well worth watching and hearing
    – What I was Reading: Use gratitude to counter stress and uncertainty. A great HBR article. In times of deep uncertainty, anxiety and confusion, it’s amazing how gratitude can give us the resources to keep going
    – What I was Learning: The documentary on the 1918 Spanish flu. Thanks for the recommendation, my dear friend Renato. A solid documentary worth watching, especially to understand how the 1918 flu spread around the world: the fear, the lockdowns, the music. A great documentary
