Energy and Decisions – ElPropósito4 min de lectura
How do changes of course relate to purpose?
Photo by Roland Larsson on UnsplashChanges of course carry a lot of meaning. They reveal intentions, needs, curiosity and, above all, the ability to keep moving forward. We can decide for ourselves what we want to achieve, and at the root of every decision lies something fundamental that has inspired my posts from the start, especially because of how much it matters when taking the next step.
We can think about, dream of and long to get from point A to point B (a particular goal). We can confirm that the decision is somehow aligned with the deepest part of who we are. We can have a complete checklist, and still, in flight, a change of course is always possible. Why is that possibility always there? One answer is that upper layer of external forces and factors that can hardly ever be calculated 100%.
Even when we make decisions with calculated risks, unimaginable events can happen and, if they do, put our decisions at risk. Yet inside us there’s a flame, a natural instinct to push through, that we can all draw on. When we’re driven by values and a firm purpose, a change of course that reduces a risk becomes an advantage and an opportunity to recharge and learn.
At first, the trip from A to B may look like a straight line, despite the tangle of brain tissue we used to imagine it. In real life, all sorts of things happen that make the journey anything but linear. Still, optimism and the flame of discipline to keep going with confidence, a winning spirit and the courage to fight carry at their center the conviction that the best is always yet to come.
The world is made of energy and decisions. Every day we have to choose, every day there’s a reason to keep fighting, and the balance between that energy and the decisions we need to make comes from our Purpose. Whether you’re a team in an organization or the person reading this post, the journey started at some point. Surely there’s a decision to make today, and deciding takes energy. How, and for what, do you want to invest that energy? And above all, how willing are you to accept change at any moment? When our purpose is clear, those changes will always bring the energy we need to keep going.
Warm regards,

- P.S. This week’s VELA (what I was Watching, Listening to, Reading and Learning):
- What I was Watching: Todo saldrá bien (Everything will be fine). One of the loveliest, most inspiring stories I’ve ever seen, on a par with the thousand-times-read Oh, the Places You’ll Go!. I loved this line: "children look outward a lot and inward very little, adults look inward a lot and outward very little. If you only focus on problems, you’ll miss the beauty of the world around you"
– What I was Listening to: ¿Escucho o me escucho? (Am I listening, or listening to myself?). An episode of the TED en Español podcast. It caught my attention for everything that sounds around us and how capable we are of hearing it. In my work as a coach, listening is a core competency like all the others, which may be why I liked this talk so much. Worth it
– What I was Reading: El Monje que vendió su Ferrari (The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari). It’s wise to admit when you’re wrong, and with this book I really was. I expected an easy read, and it turned out to be very inspiring and captivating. I’m still on it, and quite deliberately I’ve chosen to stay on it
– What I was Learning: 12 meses de pandemia y Trabajo Remoto (12 months of pandemic and remote work). A great video that needed to be made. It put a name to what happened with work during the pandemic (remote, on-site, mixed, hybrid and so on), and it sums up very well the challenges a company went through, is going through and will go through. What I admire is how clearly it also offers very positive, realistic and, above all, workable solutions, drawing on the lessons we’ve learned and the future of work ahead. Worth watching, and congratulations on the great work you’re doing, my dear friend Chico Corzo
