Dreams – ElPropósito2 min de lectura
Sometimes I wonder which comes first, dreams or ideas. What they share is that once they become real, they make a big impact, for better and for worse. Dreams become ideas when they take shape, and ideas are put into practice when someone is willing to persuade others to adopt them. Both require action, responsibility and freedom. So who governs dreams and ideas? In our inner life, only we do. Out in the world, both meet every kind of support and resistance. Dreams are, in the end, perceptions of reality. Ideas have form, and as they’re tested they gain the substance that lets people defend them with their lives if need be. A hope, for example, lives in a world where little or nothing has been built yet, and like a dream it belongs to an imagined realm that still lacks what it takes to become real. So what brings hopes, dreams and ideas down to earth?
On one hand, I believe a life without dreams, ideas, hopes and that imagined world where we all spend a good part of our lives would hardly be a life. On the other, I believe we’ve built a series of obstacles by trying to impose order on what can’t be ordered. Why, and what drives it? The best ideas and dreams are part of a purpose, so purpose ends up ranking above any thought or idea. Knowing what things are for is a powerful incentive to bring down to earth everything we long for and want to do in life. We need the freedom we’re born with to fulfill our life purpose, and with it our ideas, our dreams and the things we long for.
We bring our dreams down to earth when we have a purpose, when we can imagine something that, with effort, we can make happen. And when the basic premises are in place: respect for freedom, for life and for the chance we all have to support others as they pursue their own purposes and longings.
What is life? A frenzy.
What is life? An illusion,
a shadow, a fiction,
and the greatest good is small,
for all of life is a dream,
and dreams are only dreams.
