A Pause – ElPropósito2 min de lectura
The best strategy is born when we stop
Photo by Jose Aragones on UnsplashKnowing when to stop matters as much as every action we take to move forward. We live in a time that leaves little room for reflection, for reasoning our way to better ways of doing things. Perhaps one of the biggest lessons of the last two years is that we’re fallible, and sooner or later life’s continuum comes to an end. The pauses we take along the way should lead us to the best plans and the best decisions.
We need to approach difficult conversations from a place of real trust to get the most out of them. Personally, and in an organization and among its leaders, it’s important to have spaces where the biggest challenges are aired openly, where the toughest questions get asked and where the hardest subjects can be raised.
Plans, strategy and the best vision are born in the pause: a thoughtful, orderly and honest one. For those stops to happen regularly, there has to be a willingness to change and a clear understanding that past strategies are no guarantee of future success. Today’s pace of change leaves a very particular room to maneuver, one we need to seize and, above all, know how to use.
The biggest challenges are best approached through creativity. Caught up in the problem or the day-to-day, we can lose sight of the bigger picture. A vision, for example, will always be the source of inspiration for reflecting on where we’re headed, and any problem, however big, can be approached from a perspective that invites us to look at it from many angles.
The essence of a pause lies in the result it produces. More and more, we need to dare to take on difficult conversations willingly, to ask others to show us things from many angles and to know that our biggest challenges will be solved to the extent that we can trust others.
