Visions and Realities – ElPropósito3 min de lectura
How do the best ideas become reality?

It is fascinating how some people can read the future with great accuracy, get ahead of it, prepare and act in a way all their own. My question is: what role does purpose play in recognizing the future? There are two kinds of purpose. One is our own, which we should act on according to values and to what is right, good and virtuous. The other belongs to someone else: a group that, through force and obligation, wants us to do things we deeply disagree with, in heart and mind. How can anyone follow someone else’s purpose? How can a group define a purpose whose ends aren’t good? How can we tell that acting on a purpose will turn out well?
The idea of an entity that controls and sees everything comes in two forms. That entity can be supernatural, or it can be a human creation. When a life purpose comes from a person who genuinely wants to discover it, they are acting on one of the most important principles for society: responsibility for their own actions. Beyond the supernatural eye that sees and watches over everything, which for me is God, we have, and can develop, a set of fundamental values that serve as guides to confirm our purpose is in line with them, that it is a good purpose.
The trouble with human creations, systems that control or claim to control and see everything, is the belief that there is one and only one way of doing and seeing things. That belief brushes aside free will entirely, along with the freedom that lets human beings develop their full potential. How do we develop our full potential? First, with freedom. Second, with responsibility. Third, by being clear on our life purpose. The false belief in control over others ends up shutting down every chance a person has to grow. It is the antithesis of freedom, and it erodes all the willpower and responsibility a person or a group needs to act and decide what is best for their life.
The best visions and realities belong to the realm of what we can control and do, in line with a purpose that leads us to a life of values, a virtuous life. Doing good or doing evil means moving closer to, or further from, the purpose we came into this world for. To know our purpose is the right one, it is enough to see how we benefit from the opportunities life brings us and how well we preserve and nurture everything around us. As we build a life that benefits others, we build the best realities for ourselves and for others.
