Qualities that fuel our growth

There are as many purposes as there are people in the world, and as many as there are organizations, companies and teams on this planet. What makes a person unique? Qualities, virtues and flaws come to mind right away. Yet what truly sets someone apart is how closely they live each day in tune with their life purpose. The same goes for an organization or a company. Every time it acts against its guiding principles, it loses its essence. We might think it loses resources or time. Deep down, what it loses is its essence. What happens when we see how unique we can become and start walking in step with it?
Very few companies have the courage to talk about values, and many don’t even have a written statement of the guiding principles whose whole job is to shape how a group of people makes decisions. We rarely stop to think how much a team gains from defining its own values, let alone its own purpose. Teams that manage to put these founding principles into words are more likely to develop strong leadership and high performance. Still, teams are made of people, unique people with their own values and their own life purpose. So they need to give the team they belong to an identity of its own, so that the group becomes a unique team.
What does all this take? Courage. And what does courage take? Vulnerability. The deepest change in a team, a company or a person happens when they dare to take consistent steps in line with their main pillars: purpose, values and vision. The biggest obstacle is a belief system built up over time, and many of those beliefs are strategies that brought us success in the past. As we all know, though, past success guarantees nothing about the future. So what does give us the best shot at future success? Steps taken within an ethical and moral framework that is aligned with guiding us through the world in the best way.
A successful organization is the sum of every unique talent within it. It succeeds precisely because it works as hard as it can so that each of those talents can perform at its best. How? By understanding that the biggest changes happen from the inside out, when people feel deep down that the place they work is in harmony with their values and their life purpose. Any responsible person knows perfectly well that the only way to own their life and achieve results that are truly theirs is to take action and build their own destiny.
