Time and Its Nuances – ElPropósito5 min de lectura
When everything happens in a year
Photo by Aron Visuals on UnsplashAbout a year ago (here, in the part of the world where I’m writing), an avalanche of news plunged us into uncertainty about whether life itself would go on. Quickly, with hardly any time to prepare, we found ourselves at a crossroads full of nuances, all of them seemingly impossible to get around. In every corner of the planet, nations, institutions, companies, organizations and teams went through that collective anguish of not knowing what tomorrow would bring. And time went by. In this post I share some reflections and a special dedication.
I dedicate this post to my son Gabriel, who came into the world a year and a couple of days ago. I thank God and the Blessed Virgin Mary for his life and for his arrival in our lives, the baby we longed for so much after losing our dear, beloved and always remembered Juan Diego. Gabriel arrived at a time when everything outside was falling apart. Yet in my heart (in our hearts), hope, faith, joy and happiness stayed alive, and they still do.
It makes me reflect on how, whatever the circumstances, we human beings organize ourselves (physically, spiritually and emotionally) through the great capacities we carry inside, so we can adapt to all kinds of situations. We have so many tools in our DNA that, without knowing what tomorrow will bring, there comes a point where we can focus all our attention on the here and now, enjoy what we have in our hands and, above all, be grateful.
I think about time and how there’s no way to stop it. It always moves, it always goes on. I also wonder at what point we decide to keep up with it, accept it, or stay stuck, stalled at one specific point. In the end, time is the reference point when we pause, as I’ve wanted to do in this post. It’s my reference when I look at what was, what is and what may come. A year ago, planning was a challenge and figuring out what tomorrow would bring was a complete puzzle, and here we are, those of us who were able to keep walking through the jungle (my thoughts and prayers go to everyone who passed away during this time).
The reflections on everything that may have happened in a year are endless, just as the thoughts of everyone on this planet are endless. Still, there’s a lesson worth keeping: at some point we all became aware of the web that connects us (that has always connected us and truly exists), the one that gives us the ability to go beyond our expectations, above all to live, survive, adapt and carry on. Today’s world looks nothing like the one we knew last year, and this short stretch of time we’ve had to live through should make us fully aware of everything we’re capable of being and achieving, even in the most extreme conditions. Let’s keep building.
Warm regards,
Rodrigo Baccaro

Celebrating Gabriel Baccaro Sánchez’s first birthday, March 6, 2021. Gabriel was born on March 5, 2020. From right to left: Rodrigo, Adri, my beautiful and beloved wife, Gabriel and yours truly.
- P.S. This week’s VELA (what I was Watching, Listening to, Reading and Learning):
- What I was Watching: Jordan Peterson on Rules for Life, Psychedelics, The Bible, and Much More | The Tim Ferriss Show. An interview I’d been waiting for, and it finally arrived: two people I admire, together online. By far one of the best videos out there, and well worth watching. Luckily for me, Jordan Peterson’s next book is already on its way to my house
– What I was Listening to: Mental Training. A short audio by Sam Harris, whom I was lucky to discover this year and who is doing a lot for how I train my mind. What stood out for me was the way we can talk to ourselves, and how to learn it
– What I was Reading: The Art of Impossible. A great book I have in my hands. I’m at the point where life purpose and the goals you set for yourself connect. What stands out most is the science behind writing goals and how it connects with a person’s life purpose. It resonates deeply with me because the research in this book reflects much of what I do as a coach, especially as a coach with Success Unlimited Network
– What I was Learning: Breaking the Spell of Negative Emotions. Sam Harris again, with a great video full of powerful lessons on the negative emotions that enter the mind, take over and come at different levels. How to recognize them and what to do with them are answers I’m discovering more and more
