When what comes next takes courage and confidence

Whatever next step we choose, it will be vital to keep growing, personally and professionally. We’re called to keep improving, reinvent ourselves, leave a better world and serve others. Yet when it’s time to decide which step to take, doubt creeps in. Here’s what to do about it.

Life is a constant challenge. Every day, one way or another, we work to make a living and, ideally, to find personal fulfillment. Behind every challenge there’s a need to meet (physical, emotional or otherwise), and meeting it is where the steps come in.

Need and creativity each play a role in the next step. Need may show up as an opportunity, a discomfort or the urge to do something different. Creativity brings the ideas and thoughts about where to look and which way to go.

Feeling afraid before a next step is normal. Life’s biggest challenges come with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Fear freezes us and traps us in a vicious circle of inaction. Daring to take the step and learning as we go is what builds confidence.

The best step is the one we take confident that it fits our Life Purpose. There will probably be more information than we can use, but the vision keeps our courage alive. And the power to decide, and to try again and again, will always be a personal choice within our control.

Warm regards and all the best,

Rodrigo Baccaro

P.S. This week’s VELA:

  • What I’ve been Viewing: Zamorano graduates who succeeded at building companies. A great SmartWebinar: two fellow graduates of my university sharing what they’ve learned as entrepreneurs. Both are worth hearing: Lisbeth Pacheco, founder of Ethos Roasters, and Jorge Ballen, founder of Panaca.
  • What I’ve been Listening to: Resistiré. A great song that’s had several versions. I just discovered this one and it’s very inspiring.
  • What I’ve been Reading: Estados Unidos, la historia. Still on the same book after several weeks. I’m in the Civil War, North against South.
  • What I’ve been Learning: Peruvian ceviche. A short explanation by chef Gastón Acurio of this wonderful work of art that so many people love, a true delicacy.
