How to Handle Uncertainty and Gain Independence – ElPropósito3 min de lectura
In a world that rewards speed, with plenty of side effects, how do you pause?
Photo by Victor Freitas from PexelsFor a long time, uncertainty was a source of worry, stress and anxiety for me. That constant feeling of not knowing what would happen or where life would take me fed my impatience, low spirits and unhappiness. All of that changed, and today I enjoy life calmly.
With the first month of the year already gone (in the blink of an eye), here are a few questions I’d like to share and invite you to reflect on: Am I the pilot, copilot or passenger of my life? What legacy do I want to leave? What are my goals for 2019? What’s the best thing that could happen to me this year? What’s in my hands to do? How and where do I start?
These tools have helped me handle uncertainty and gain independence:
- Calm the mind: we live in a world where speed equals success. We can’t stop, it’s almost forbidden. The vicious circle of too little sleep, poor eating, skipping the doctor, no exercise and being overweight is the effect of a mind that isn’t calm. So what can we do, and how? My strategy is to pray, exercise, meditate and organize my day. I describe it in more detail, along with the results I get, in "How to Win the Day with a ROW," which I invite you to read
- Compass: we all know the navigation methods that have always been used as tools for exploration (the stars, sun, tides, moon, wind, compass, GPS and so on). Some questions to switch on our compass: What guides my life? What’s the statement that defines me and tells me who I am and where I’m going? This may be the one tool every human being should have and be able to answer. Knowing we’re going from point A to point B makes us aware of the obstacles we’ll need to get around
- Perception of reality: the more aware we are of our reality, the more oriented and confident we’ll be facing our future. The firmer our position in the world, the more consistent our actions
- Own the path: at any moment we can stop doing whatever doesn’t fully satisfy us and decide to change. By nature we have every ability to dream, plan, innovate and build our own future. This may be the greatest potential source of calm we have
What’s your source of certainty? How are you approaching your year? Thank you for always sharing your opinions and messages with me. They mean a lot to me and keep me going.
A big hug and all the best,
Rodrigo Baccaro
